Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 19, 2026
Lighter House is a shared to-do and calendar app for households. This policy explains what information the Lighter House app and website collect, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. "Lighter House," "we," and "us" mean Lighter House LLC, a Minnesota limited liability company.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account information: your name and email address, and a password. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and are stored in a protected, hashed form. We cannot read them.
- Household information: household names, who belongs to a household, and each member's role (owner, household member or manager).
- Content you create: to-dos, notes, due dates and times, priorities, owners, reminders, prep lists and saved templates. This content is visible to the other members of your household, according to their roles.
- Messages to us: anything you send when you email us for support.
Information from your device
- Notifications: if you turn on reminders or notifications, we keep a push notification token for your device so reminders can reach it.
- Calendar: if you choose to show Lighter House to-dos on your phone's calendar, the app writes events to a calendar on your device. That calendar data stays on your device and is not sent to us.
We do not use advertising trackers, and we do not currently use third-party analytics in the app. We do not ask for your precise location, contacts, photos or health information.
How we use your information
- To provide the app: create your account, run your household, show your to-dos and calendar, and send the reminders you ask for.
- To keep the service secure, prevent misuse, and fix problems.
- To respond to your messages and support requests.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share it with advertisers.
Who can see your information
- Other members of your household. What others can see depends on their role. Owners can limit a manager to only the to-dos assigned to that manager.
- Service providers that help us run Lighter House, under terms that limit how they use your information. They include our database, hosting and authentication provider (Supabase) and, when notifications are on, a push notification service (Expo).
- Legal and safety reasons. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public, or Lighter House.
- A business change. If Lighter House is involved in a merger, sale or similar transaction, your information may be transferred as part of it. We would tell you before it became subject to a different privacy policy.
Children
Lighter House is meant for adults and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. Adults may mention their children, for example in a school to-do. Please include only what you need, and email us if you believe a child has created an account so we can delete it.
How long we keep information
We keep your information while your account is active. If you delete your account, we delete your account and the personal information tied to it. Copies in secure backups are removed on a rolling schedule. We may keep limited records where the law requires, such as for security or legal disputes.
Your choices and rights
- Access and correct. You can see and edit your profile and your content in the app.
- Delete your account. In the app, open Settings and choose to delete your account. You can also email us and we will do it for you.
- Notifications. You can turn reminders and notifications off at any time in the app or in your phone's settings.
- Other rights. Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask for a copy of your information, to ask us to correct or delete it, or to object to certain uses. Email us and we will respond within the time the law requires.
Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections and access controls that limit each person to the households they belong to. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot promise absolute security.
International use
Lighter House is operated from the United States. If you use it from elsewhere, your information will be processed in the United States.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we will post the new version here and update the date above. If a change is significant, we will also notify you in the app or by email.
